Abstract—The first investigations on the metabolism of yeast cells in vivo by means of the retrieval of the
phase distribution from femtosecond cross correlation measurements show a characteristic distribution of the
phase shift of coherent light. The obtained phase shift distribution is compared with the phase shift distribution
retrieved from a series of phase sensitive measurements carried out on a set of optically identically oriented
samples by means of quantitative phase-microscopy. First comparisons show better statistic results by means
of the fs-laser-pulse analysis at a considerably reduced measuring time. Consequently, this method is better
suited to high throughput investigations.
