Extraction of an Electron Beam through a Foil

Abstract—Problems concerned with the design of systems for electron beam extraction through a window cov-
ered by a vacuum-tight foil are considered. Such systems are used for high-power electron accelerators applied
in industrial radiation installations. Methods for calculating extraction windows are presented for two foil-cool-
ing techniques. A comparative study of various materials used for foil production is performed. The limiting
parameters of beam extraction systems are estimated.
